What caused the peasants revolt in July of 1789?

The revolt started because three 3 estates (1st clergy) (2nd nobles)(3rd peasants and middle class) made up French society and the 3rd class was expected to pay taxes to support the other two, which did not pay taxes. Plus, Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778)challenged the king's supreme authority by promoting the idea that the right to rule came not from God, but from the people.
