Was Religion From Fear???

IMO it was started to control the peasants so as they don't rebel and have something in their life(or death) to look forward to to look forward to. Or was it from fear of having no afterlife. The caste system was made solely for the Invaders to control the citizens that they invaded, and they obviously put in reincarnation so they would lead ethically and morally fit lives. Agree?
